As Joel and I prepared for Bianca's upcoming Angel Date—what bereaved parents often call the anniversary of their child's death—we tried to embrace our emotions while also savoring the small joys and celebrations around us.
One weekend in June, braving the intense desert heat, we headed to Las Vegas to celebrate my mother-in-law's 89th birthday.
While in Vegas, we reconnected with some cherished childhood friends who had recently moved there. We took full advantage of the city's vibrant nightlife, enjoying delicious drinks and food at a local Tiki Bar. It was heartwarming to see old friends who had played a vital role in helping Joel and me through the difficult days following Bianca's passing.

In our younger years, Joel and I frequently visited Las Vegas for its lively entertainment. This time, we made sure to catch a show I had always wanted to see: Cirque du Soleil's O. It was truly magical, with incredible special effects and music that kept us captivated from start to finish!
To celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday, we also attended Shin Lin: LIMITLESS at the Mirage Hotel. The performance was mesmerizing, leaving us in awe of how such amazing magic can come to life before your eyes.

And, staying true to Bianca's spirit, we made sure to indulge in some fantastic food at Sparrow & Wolfe.

Some of the culinary highlights from our quick Vegas getaway included (from L-R):
Japanese milk bread with yuzu butter
Banh Cuon (Ground pork with wood ear mushrooms, habanero, and coconut)
Japanese Sweet Potato
Spanish Potato
Halibut
32 oz almond wood-fired Creekstone porterhouse (aged in white miso selection of American banchan, warm garlic naan)
