Bianca's Story

Treat people with kindness

-Bianca

Born in 2003, Bianca embodied traits of shyness and passion, epitomizing the ideal daughter.  As the sole granddaughter and daughter, she was affectionately crowned the Princess of the family.

At Taylor Middle School, Bianca stumbled upon her fervor for journalism while engaging with the school's radio station, KTLR. She reveled in delivering news, conducting interviews, and exercising her First Amendment rights.

Transitioning to Mills High School in Millbrae, Class of 2021, Bianca's love for journalism evolved into a powerful tool for advocacy.  She championed causes close to her heart, such as Women's Rights, LGBTQ+ issues, and environmental conservation.  Also an advocate of animal welfare, she adhered to the "adopt, not shop" mentality.

On April of 2021, just days shy of her 18th birthday, Bianca began experiencing health concerns following her COVID-19 vaccination.  Initially attributing to its side effects, she soon discovered swollen lymph nodes that persisted.  A diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-Cell ALL) swiftly followed, leading to her admission to Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara for treatment.

Further testing revealed Bianca had Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph + ALL), necessitating more aggressive chemotherapy. Despite a valiant seventeen-month battle and a period of remission, the debilitating effects of treatment led to recurrent admissions to the Pediatric ICU. Eventually, she underwent a bone marrow transplant from her older brother, Gabe, on February 18, 2022, marking the beginning of a grueling recovery journey.

Tragically, complications arose, and Bianca's weakened immune system left her susceptible to infection. Despite every effort, her body succumbed, and on July 12, 2022, her family made the heart-wrenching decision to remove life support.
